The Line of Amsterdam is 50cm long. It is cut in a 1.5mm thick sheet of steel and then finished in black. The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is a major economic centre and the number one Dutch tourist destination, although the seat of government is located in The Hague. Its inhabitants, Amsterdammers, get around via 14 tramway lines and five tube lines, as well as on foot or by bicycle. Of the many canals that wind for more than 100 kilometres and under 1,500 bridges which span them, the four main channels, built in the 12th century, are the Herengracht, the Prinsengracht, the Keizersgracht and the Singel. Known for its red light district and its many ‘coffee shops’, Amsterdam is also home to the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum, which are among the world’s most visited.
The Line has chosen to depict the AMSTERDAM skyline as seen from NEMO Museum.
It is wrapped up in a nice cardboard box, including 3 black nails of course!
